Also known as Mahalia, she is a 21 year old R&B artist based in the United Kingdom. Mahalia is a new and rising artist in the United States and is growing even more in her home country due to her first ever album “Love and Compromise” and hit single, “What You Did” featuring, well known UK and US artist, Ella Mai.
Mahalia Burkmark
This young artist is just starting in her career and is taking the world by storm. Since the release of her album she has been able to tour the US, Australia and her home country. She can only go up from here folks.
I have enjoyed Mahalia’s music for almost a year now, and have been so amazed by her growth and ability to stand out in such a cut throat industry. Her unique voice and confident stage presence is what drew me to her as an artist, and I’m very picky when it comes to artists I love. When I first discovered her I definitely developed an unhealthy obsession with her music, not gonna lie. I listen to the same 4 songs on repeat, in hopes that I would never get tired of it and I have to say 10 months later I still love her music past, and current. Her music style along with the message she wants to convey allows me to relate to her as a heterosexual women.

She sings about her past relationships and putting herself and her self love first before anything. I feel as though I can truly feel the growth in herself from past songs to her new album. It is also very interesting listening to her sound and how it differs from R&B artists in the US and makes me want to listen to more international artists. She is the type of artist to listen to after a breakup or anything really emotionally tasking or even just a regular day. I blast her albums while in the shower and feel empowered when listening. Lyrics like “I’m the prize, I’m the blessing” makes a girl like me scream that lyric because many women don’t think of themselves as worthy and I love that Mahalia encourages herself and others to think of themselves as a prize that not everyone can win. All in all, Mahalia is one of my favorite R&B artists to date and plan on going to one of her concerts in the future (in hopes it’s under $50).
