Top 3 Female 90’s R&B Artists

Hello all, glad to be back and entertain you in a time when we all need some stress relief from being in quarantine. Not sure if this top 3 will provide relaxation or more anxiety because this was a difficult one to put together. I wanted to create a top 3 of amazing female R&B artists that thrived in the 1990’s. This got difficult when trying not to include the same people I have mentioned in previous blogs, but since these artists are some of my favorites it is hard not to keep talking about them. To keep you from waiting, here are my top 3 female R&B artists of the 90’s (in no particular order).

Lauryn Hill

The one and only, Lauryn Hill had to be included in this list, and there is no need for an explanation as an artist. I would just leave at that, but I need to give her more praise than that. Lauryn Hill first started in a group called The Fugees, the group led to the start of her solo music career. It is amazing to me that she only has one album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, that she has been known and recognized for since 1998, when it was released. She first became known as an actress in the film Sister Act where she sang and I think that what skyrocketed her career in music. All in all, you and i both know that Lauryn Hill does not need any explanation as to why she is the great artist she is recognized for today.

Aaliyah

Yet again, another great artist I need to recognize. Aaliyah’s artistry in the music industry has influenced the R&B industry. She had a soft tone in her songs and carried such emotion in her music. Her voice sounded effortless and graceful. She too like Lauryn Hill has only one album, Age Ain’t Nothin But A Number, released in 1994. Unfortunately, unlike Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001 at the age of 22. Her legacy of great music and soul still lives on today,

Mariah Carey

Last, but not least, the last artist I have chosen to be in my top 3 women in R&b in the 1990’s is Mariah Carey. Like the artists previously mentioned, she was an amazing artist in the 90’s and still is relevant in the cut throat industry today. Unlike Lauryn Hill and Aaliyah, Mariah Carey continues to make new music and great hits. All in all Mariah Carey is a well rounded individual that has been in the music industry for more than 2 decades.
